A china state-run English newspaper Global Times states that one US military athlete in the delegation could be patient zero of the deadly new disease.
George Webb, an investigative journalist in Washington, DC claimed in recent videos and tweets that he believes Maatje Benassi, an armed diplomatic driver, and the cyclist who was in Wuhan in October for the cycling competition in the Military World Games, could be patient zero of COVID-19 in Wuhan.
The Chinese netizens, as well as the experts, urge U.S authorities to release the health information of U.S military delegation which came to Wuhan for the military world games in October to end the claims that US military personnel brought covid-19 to china.
It is said that the claim is a part of an effort by the Chinese government to change the narrative about the actual origin of the coronavirus.
The Chinese ambassador to the United States Cui Tiankai dismissed this conspiracy theory stating it as “crazy” earlier this week. It has been said that Global Times also admits that Webb’s conclusions are “without strong evidence”, but it also claims that Chinese citizens and experts are calling on the U.S. to publish details about the athletes who traveled to Wuhan.
